Pharmacy

We fill new prescriptions and refills at no cost for covered medications for eligible beneficiaries. To fill prescriptions at any Defense Health Agency medical facility, all beneficiaries must be validated and registered through Patient Administration before Pharmacy can fill your prescription. For patients who do not have TRICARE medical coverage, it is mandatory to provide Other Health Insurance information before picking up medications. Prescriptions are billed to either the civilian insurance on file or directly to the patient. It is the sole responsibility of the patient to understand their prescription coverage and associated copays.

Filling New Prescriptions

We fill prescriptions from both military and civilian providers.

Providers from Our Facility

Your provider may submit a prescription directly to the pharmacy during or after your appointment.

Civilian Providers

If you have prescriptions from an off-post provider:
  • You can hand-carry a written prescription to our pharmacy.
To submit an electronic prescription:
Ask your provider to select the pharmacy below. Please note this only applies to US civilian providers in US-based clinics. Host nation providers in host nation clinics cannot submit electronic prescriptions.
  • Pharmacy name: DOD LANDSTUHL GERMANY PHARMACY
  • NCPDP/NPI number: 8110443 / 1639248792
If you hand-carry a written prescription:
  • Pharmacy conveniently has a drop box available in the Pharmacy Lobby for you to place your paper prescriptions for processing. You can pick up your paper prescriptions after noon on the next duty day. Patients are to use the drop off option as paper prescriptions may not be filled on the same day.
  • If requesting prescriptions from Host Nation Providers, please be aware of the following requirements for Pharmacy to fill your prescription(s):
  • If the Provider’s information is not in MHS Genesis, Pharmacy will have to request Defense Health Network Europe (DHNE) Credentials validate the prescriber before pharmacy can prescriptions.
  • Prescription(s) must contain the all of the following information in English: patient’s full name and date of birth, medication name and strength, dosage form, directions for use to include dose, route, frequency of administration, duration (when applicable), quantity to be dispense, number of refills (if appropriate), date of prescribing, printed or stamped prescriber's information (complete name, address, and phone number), and prescriber’s signature.
  • Prescriptions must be for FDA-approved medications.
  • Additionally, all TRICARE requirements and limitations must be met before Pharmacy can fill a prescription. This includes any prior authorization or medical necessity requirements and quantity limits (see TRICARE Formulary Search Tool). When applicable, it is the responsibility of the prescriber to complete and submit prior authorization or medical necessity forms. Once approved, the pharmacy will dispense the medication.

Activating New Prescriptions

There are multiple ways to activate your prescription. Activating your prescription prior to arriving at the pharmacy will save you significant wait time.

Option 1: Fastest and Preferred

Scan the QR code below or go to: https://cxmlink.com/DHAMTF607 (or use the Q-Anywhere app) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to request new prescriptions. Follow the prompts to activate your prescription(s). It is strongly encouraged to include comments in the comment field to alert pharmacy as to which medication(s) you are requesting to activate. Once activation is complete, you’ll receive a message on the screen with a “Q” number and options to send more messages to the pharmacy. You can close the browser, but it is recommended to keep the browser open so pharmacy can contact you if there are issues in filling your prescription(s).
  • Prescriptions activated before 10 a.m. can be picked up the same day after 3 p.m.
  • Prescriptions activated after 10 a.m. can be picked up after noon on the next business day.
  • Please do not wait in the lobby while your medications are being processed.
  • When you arrive to the Pharmacy Lobby to pick up your prescription(s), please select a “Return for Pickup” ticket from the kiosk and wait to be called.
  • If you keep the browser open, you can see messages from Pharmacy to you. Pharmacy will only send messages if we cannot fill your request.

Option 2: In Person (Non-Preferred)

Go to the Pharmacy Lobby (ward 9B) and select a “Discharge” ticket. Please note that wait times vary throughout the day and please note that Pharmacy services on Saturdays are limited to only ER patient and pickup for patients who have called in refills or pre-activated prescriptions. There is no routine prescription processing or activation on Saturdays.

  • Follow the prompts to select where you want to pick it up.
  • You’ll be given a date and time when your refill(s) will be ready to pick up.
Note: If you’re not a registered user in MHS Genesis Patient Portal, you’ll need to sign up first.

Option 2: By Phone

Picking Up Your Prescriptions

You’ll need a valid uniformed services ID card to pick up a prescription. This includes children aged 10 and older. Prescriptions not picked up will be returned to stock after 10 calendar days. If you can’t pick up your prescription within this timeframe, please contact the pharmacy. If you’re picking up a prescription for another person, please bring that person’s valid uniformed services ID (or photocopy, digital picture).
Please note the kiosk turns off 15 minutes prior to closing.

ScriptCenter

The ScriptCenter is located in the Pharmacy Lobby (9B) and is available 24/7. Patients are encouraged to use the ScriptCenter option for their refills. Patients can select the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center – ScriptCenter option from both the MHS Genesis Patient Portal and the call-in refill system.
Certain items may not be available from the ScriptCenter, such as refrigerated medications and oversized items.

Main Pharmacy

For patients who called in their refills or used the MHS Genesis Patient Portal to request refills and those who pre-activated their new prescription with Q-Anywhere, please select the “Return for Pickup” ticket at the pharmacy kiosk during busing hours.

Drug Take Back Program

Proper disposal of prescription drugs reduces the risk of unintentional poisoning, drug abuse, and environmental harm.
If you want to dispose of an unwanted or an unneeded drug, please discard them in the black trash container at home in accordance with Germany waste guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my prescription is covered?

All military pharmacies follow the TRICARE Formulary – a list of TRICARE-covered  prescription drugs and supplies. The TRICARE Formulary lists:
  • Which drugs are covered.
  • Drug information and frequently asked questions.
  • Cost details ($0 at a military pharmacy and out-of-pocket costs elsewhere).
  • Medical necessity/prior-authorization requirements and link to forms.
    • If a prior-authorization and/or medical necessity is required, your provider must submit the request to TRICARE before your prescription can be filled.

Can I fill a prescription if I am not a TRICARE beneficiary?

Yes; however, the Tricare prescription requirements to include all prior authorization and medical necessity forms must be completed before Landstuhl Pharmacy can fill your prescription. Landstuhl Pharmacy must adhere to all TRICARE outpatient pharmacy requirements, regardless of the patient’s health insurance.

Can I refill a prescription if the last fill was not at a military pharmacy?

Yes; however, transferring prescriptions from US Pharmacies is extremely difficult and many US Pharmacies will not transfer outside the US. It is recommended to have your local provider write a new prescription rather than request a transfer from a US civilian pharmacy. Landstuhl Pharmacy cannot transfer prescriptions to or from host nation pharmacies.

Can I pick up medications for another person?

Yes! Please bring a valid uniformed services ID (or photocopy, digital pictures) for all patients getting prescriptions. Please note: Children 10 years of age or older must have their own ID card.

What is the difference between a new, refill, and renewal prescription?

A new prescription is one a provider writes for a specific quantity and subsequent refills. It may require extra verification or prior authorization.
A refill is an additional supply of your medication that your doctor authorized as part of your original prescription. This pre-approval allows the pharmacy to dispense more of your medication without requiring a new prescription from your doctor. For example, take one tablet daily, quantity 90 with 4 refills. This means the patient can call the pharmacy every 90 days to have medication for a year without seeing their doctor for a new prescription every 90 days.
A renewal is for a medication you’ve already been prescribed but it has expired or run out of authorized refills.

What if I need a non-formulary or non-stocked medication?

If you’re prescribed a non-formulary medication, there are extra steps for your provider to complete. Non-formulary drugs are non-stocked medications at MTF pharmacies and overseas MTF pharmacies have additional logistical requirements than MTF pharmacies in the US. For these medications, expect a longer turnaround time for preparation and ordering, or you may have to use an alternative pharmacy option, such as a host nation pharmacy.

I’m deploying. How can I fill my prescriptions?

Before deploying, MTF pharmacies can provide your initial deployment prescription in a quantity to support your deployment within legal requirements. You can fill prescriptions and get refills through the Deployment Prescription Program once in theatre if the location is not restricted by foreign postal law.
