Armed Services Blood Program-Europe (ASBP)

As the official Dept. of Defense blood organization, all the blood donated to the Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) stays within the military, to save lives on and off the battlefield. Blood donations treat combat casualties as well as patients in military medical facilities…you can help US and other NATO military & families, retirees, DOD civilians and more.

3 Ways to Save Lives in the Military

1. Sign up to Donate BLOOD at Base Blood Drives

ASBP schedules blood drives monthly at Ramstein, every 8+ weeks on installations near Landstuhl, and annually at many other installations throughout Europe. Appointments are HIGHLY encouraged, walk-ins are accepted when possible but may have longer wait times.

  • Join a Blood Drive Waitlist: If the appointment time you want is full, send an email with your contact info, location and availability.
  • Join a Base Email Distro: To find out about upcoming blood drives in your area, send an email with your location.

2. Sign up to Donate PLATELETS & PLASMA at Landstuhl

Appointments available Monday-Thursday mornings at the Landstuhl Blood Donor Center. By appointment only.

3. Sign up to VOLUNTEER to support Base Blood Drives:

No special skills needed to earn volunteer hours supporting the military’s blood program! Help is most needed BEFORE blood drives (promotion and in-person Donor Signup Outreach). Volunteers can also help DURING blood drives (check-in donors, pass out snacks & gifts, help setup/teardown, etc.).

Donor Eligibility Information

Thanks to relaxed rules, nearly everyone over 18 with base access can donate blood now (including US/NATO military and families, Civilian and Local National staff, retirees and more)! The FDA completely removed the BSE "Mad Cow" disease restrictions regarding time spent in Europe/UK, now there’s only a 3-month wait after tattoos outside the US or travel to malaria-risk areas, and now all donors have the same HIV screening. Units & Organizations needed to Sponsor Blood Drives

Help your team build evaluation bullets and earn hours toward the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, while helping save lives! Sponsoring is NOT financial. Sponsors simply provide leadership engagement and volunteer support before and during a blood drive. ASBP-Europe brings the experienced blood drive team to take care of everything else. Leaders can also make a big impact by offering as authorized by DoD Regulations (no PT, time off/Pass/early release/late report, awards/recognition, double volunteer hours, CIV clothes day, etc.).
