Travel Clinic
What is the Travel Clinic?
The Travel Clinic is a service offered by the Infectious Disease Clinic at LRMC. As space allows, we see travelers for both official (e.g. TDY, deployment) and leisure travel. In the appointment, we review your itinerary, immunizations, and medical history. We provide counseling and recommendations on immunizations and medications (e.g. malaria prophylaxis, traveler’s diarrhea treatment) to optimize your health and protection. We recommend an appointment for travel to Africa, Asia, South America, Central America, Pacific Islands and some regions in North America (Caribbean, Mexico), Australia and the Middle East.
Do I need a separate immunizations appointment?
YES! The LRMC Immunizations Clinic is separate from the Travel Clinic and requires a separate appointment to administer the immunizations prescribed in the travel appointment. Please schedule this appointment for any time after your travel clinic appointment (same day is fine).
- The Immunizations Clinic is located on Unit 6D
- LRMC Appointment Line: +49 06371-9464-5762
When should I schedule my Travel Clinic appointment?
The appointment should take place at least 1-2 months prior to your trip. This allows adequate time for following up on labs (if applicable), scheduling and obtaining your immunizations, and any administrative items (e.g. AC Form 42 for AFRICOM travel). Immunizations should be administered at least 10 days prior to travel for optimal protection. Some travel immunizations require more than one dose with a fixed schedule.
What if I have last-minute travel and the Travel Clinic is fully booked?
If we don’t have availability for last-minute travel, we recommend reaching out to your flight/brigade surgeon (for official travel) or your PCM (for leisure travel) for your travel medicine needs. We do not offer large group appointments for missions.
What should I bring to my Travel Clinic appointment?
Please be prepared with knowledge of your itinerary, including dates, locations, and any recreational or adventure activities. If you have received immunizations outside of the Military Health System, please bring records for review.
Can children be seen in the Travel Clinic?
We can see travelers aged 16 and older. For younger children, we intermittently have volunteer providers on a case-by-case basis. If our volunteer providers are not available, we recommend scheduling appointments with Pediatrics or Family Medicine.
